Viney M. Davenport passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Ochsner Medical Center Main Campus, at the age of 83. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. She attended Booker T. Washington High School. Viney began her professional journey as a line cook with Rendezvous at Maison Blanche and later found her true calling as a house manager. Her dedication and work ethic earned her deep respect, particularly during her 25 years working for the Redd Family. A woman of faith and compassion, Viney was a member of Second Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and purpose as a part of Sisters Supporting Sisters Group. Viney enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and arts and crafts. She will be lovingly remembered for her strength, nurturing spirit, and warmth. Beloved wife of over 50 years to the late Oscar Davenport Jr. Devoted mother of Sandra D. (Michael) Peabody, Mary Davenport (the late Byron) Henry, Sharon D. (Corey) Brooks, and Youzette D. (Desmond) Edwards. Loving grandmother Oscar Peabody Rene Jackson, Raven Jackson, Nicholas Edwards, Noel Edwards, Te’Darryle Davenport, Nathaniel Edwards, and Ralph Martin, Jr., Great grandmother of Paul Brue, Jr., Ry’Leigh Devore, Obi Edwards, and Penelope Jackson. Daughter of the late Grant and Mary Matthews. Sister of the late Geraldine Ernest and Peter Matthews. Aunt of Brenda and Warren Ernest. Great aunt of Brandy and Grant Ernest. Great great aunt of Sage Jefferson. Viney is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara Pierson, and a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Davis Mortuary Service, 6820 Westbank Expressway, Marrero, LA on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:00a.m. Rev. David Richard, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the parlor.
