In Loving Memory of Virgil Paul Burns June 11, 1971 – June 12, 2025
Virgil Paul Burns passed away on June 12, 2025, in Riverside, California. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, Virgil spent most of his life in Southern California, where he quietly left his mark with his intelligence, sense of humor, and tender heart.
A graduate of Norco High School (Class of 1989), Virgil continued his education at Riverside Community College, earning an Associate of Science degree in 2007. He built a career in technology, working as a Network Administrator and Computer Programmer-fields that reflected his love of logic, learning, and the occasional challenge no one else could figure out.
But Virgil was much more than his work. He was an avid reader, drawn to science fiction, fantasy, and military history, and a devoted gamer who loved getting lost in immersive worlds. He also enjoyed bike rides and walking his beloved dogs, always happiest in the company of them. A dedicated sports fan, Virgil cheered faithfully for the Los Angeles Angels and the San Francisco 49ers-teams he followed with heart and humor. His sarcastic wit was often hilarious and always uniquely his. Dogs, in particular, seemed to sense the kindness beneath his quiet presence and often chose him as their trusted pack leader.
He is survived by his loving mother, Christy Venn; his stepfather, David Bruce; and his half-brothers, Clinton and Arron Bruce. He is also lovingly remembered by Marcia McVey, his partner of 23 years, who remained a close and supportive presence in his life until the end. Virgil will be remembered by friends and family as someone who felt deeply, loved quietly, and always stayed uniquely himself.
In honor of Virgil's life and his love for animals, donations can be made to:
