Virginia R. McGranahan, 78, of Greenville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at UPMC Jameson in New Castle, surrounded by family.
Virginia was born in Greenville, PA, on April 27, 1947, to the late John and Ruth (Frits) Axtell.
She was a graduate of Pymatuning Joint High School. She retired in 2005 from the United States Postal Service after 27 years of service as a rural carrier in Jamestown, and postmaster in Adamsville and Hartstown. After retirement she worked at Jamestown Soap Works with her sisters, which she really enjoyed.
She was married to the former Clyde H. McGranahan on November 30, 2000, and he preceded her in death on January 14, 2024.
Virginia loved traveling all across the country with her husband, Clyde, as well as with their friends. She was her grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, whether it was for sporting events or for any milestone they accomplished. She liked going shopping and occasionally going to the casino with her sisters and friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandsons.
Virginia is survived by her son, Glen (Ann) Smith of Orlando, FL; daughter, Susie (Greg) Shirey of Greenville, PA; two step daughters, Noel (Ron) Spencer of Laurens, SC, Tracey Frye of Erie, PA; two sisters, Peg (Tom) Beighley of Greenville, PA, Pat (Mark) Burford of Jamestown, PA; seven grandchildren, Samantha Blaschak, Makaela Rust, Maddie Shirey, Clay Shirey, Avery Shirey, Hope Spencer, and Emily Spencer; three great-grandsons, Bruer Blaschak, Riggs Smith and Ryker Smith.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Handspiker.
Visitation will take place at Osborne-Williams Funeral Home on Sunday, June 1, from 1:00-3:00 pm. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Maurice Brockenborough.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Stray Haven Animal Shelter.
