Virginia Lee Miller, 90, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away on December 30, 2024. She was born on February 22, 1934, in Linden, Tennessee, to Hugh Taylor Duncan and Lura Ida Estelee (Curry) Duncan.
Virginia, known as "Jen", was a devoted wife, mother, and follower of Christ. She was the loving wife of William "Jr." Miller, a pipeline worker, and together they traveled extensively for his work. With her four children in tow, Virginia was always ready to pack up and follow her husband's blue GMC truck and their 43' Spartan Mansion, no matter where the pipeline job took them. A deeply spiritual woman, Virginia was committed to making sure her family attended church wherever they went. It didn't matter if the church was predominantly black or white-Virginia ensured that her family was involved in the church community. During the 1960's, this sometimes sparked curiosity, but no matter where they went, they were always welcomed with open arms. Virginia's dedication to Sunday School was evident by the attendance pins the family earned, a testament to her faithfulness.
Virginia's work ethic was unmatched. You could find her before sunrise, working hard in her yard-picking up sticks, raking leaves, and other tasks, regardless of weather,. She did all this while wearing multiple layers of shirts and overalls, even on the hottest days or coldest winters. Her family also remembers her for her famous chocolate gravy and biscuits, and they eagerly anticipated what color her Thanksgiving dressing would turn out.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Jr." Miller, and her siblings: Ruby Weddington, Ruth Lineberry, Irene Long, Jean Parrish, Harold Duncan, Howard Duncan, Billy Hugh Duncan, and Hollis Ray Duncan of Linden, Tennessee.
She is survived by her 3 sisters; Jannie Hartsfield of Columbia, Shirley (David) Lifferth of Antioch, and Judy Reinagel of Dickson; Her children; Rick Horner (Sheri) of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Dale Horner (Lori), of Harrah, Oklahoma, Donna Brasington of Sachse, Texas, and Dave Miller (Debbie) of Midwest City, Oklahoma. Virginia is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and an honorary sister and neighbor, Lilly Nichols, whose nightly check-ins never failed.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Marci Wilson, Jim McWhirter, and the entire team at Wellington Parke for providing Virginia with a wonderful and safe home for the last two and a half years of her life. Their compassionate care ensured she had the highest quality of life with delicious meals, timely medication, and engaging activities that brought her joy.
There are no words to fully convey our appreciation for their commitment to Virginia's happiness. Thank you, Wellington Parke for all you've done to ensure her comfort and safety.
