Virginia Wanzek Obituary

Throughout her life she was a teacher, author, healthcare worker, and active in organizations including the Chapel at her residence. She was a sports player in childhood and an avid sports fan in her adult life. She was the family historian, a baker of thousands of Christmas cookies, and a skilled craftswoman who enjoyed crochet, embroidery, and quilting.
She accomplished so much in her long, full life. Above all, she was most dedicated to loving and caring for those around her. To her family, she was a rock and inspiration. To all, she was a dedicated friend. She will be greatly missed and joyfully remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome, her parents, Jacob and Paulina Hieb, and thirteen siblings. She is survived by four children and their spouses (Gregory and Deborah Wanzek, Steven and Jeanne Wanzek, Kent and Lori Wanzek, Barbara and Jay Julien), nine grandchildren with four spouses (Melissa, Brent, Michael, Jenny, Joseph, Megan, Melanie, Luke, Robert, Kyle, Lauren, Cole, and Shelby) and ten great-grandchildren (Jack, Amara, Brandon, Natalie, Dylan, Liam, Owen, Lydia, Abigail, and Katherine).
Funeral Mass to be held on Tuesday, November 15th at 10 AM at St Gabriel the Archangel - St Joseph Campus, 1310 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343. Visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make donations to the Glenn Pastoral Services at The Glenn in Hopkins, MN.

Virginia was an amazing cousin (through her mother, Paulina Dietrich Hieb) who shared generously of her photos, recipes, stories, and love. I was blessed to be able to spend time with her, to meet her older sister Mary and other relatives through her, and thus to give me the impetus to become a historian of sorts for my own branch of the Dietrich family.

Virginia was such a caring person and good friend... For all the years that she lived at The Glenn in Hopkins, she was know by many people there. Always a smile and full of energy. What a good friend to have had. I am the Daughter of Marge Murphy... Kathleen Murphy. My mother also had lived for many years at the Glenn when it was known as St. Therese. My mother and Virginia were the best of friends. The stores and jokes that she and Virginia shared were the best. She will truly be missed.
