Vito Rocco Messina, a resident of Fort Montgomery and former longtime resident of Washingtonville, entered into rest on July 4, 2023, at Emerald Peek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Peekskill, NY. He was 67 years old.
Vito was born on November 9, 1955, in Brooklyn, the eldest son of the late Vito and Mary (Bova) Messina. During his teen years, the Messina family relocated to Washingtonville. Vito was a graduate of Washingtonville High School and studied at Orange County Community College.
Having a longstanding career in security at Entergy in Buchanan, N.Y. and formerly within law enforcement for the municipality of Fort Montgomery, Vito served both communities diligently.
Vito loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and target shooting throughout his life, and had a soft spot in his heart for all dogs. From childhood, Vito was an enthusiastic football fan and cheered on the Minnesota Vikings with zeal.
Vito was a beloved husband for 39 years to Carmelina Messina, who predeceased him. In addition to Carmelina, his father and mother were laid to rest in 2015 and 2019 respectively.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving children, Anthony Messina of Louisville, KY; and Jamie Nolte-Messina of Fort Montgomery, NY; and siblings: Rocco Messina and his wife, Jennifer of Fishkill, NY and Mary Messina-Webber and her husband, Richard of Middletown, NY.
Memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm, at William F. Hogan Funeral Home, 135 Main St., Highland Falls, NY, with a Chapel Service beginning at 2:00 pm. A burial of the cremains will follow at Eagle Valley Cemetery.
