Vivian Lynn Eccles, 77, of Cheney, KS passed away August 12, 2024, at the Cheney Golden Age Home.
She was born on February 12, 1947, at LeRoy, KS. She was the daughter of Helmuth and Louise (Beckmann) Gleue. She was raised in LeRoy and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1965.
Vivian met Roy Eccles in 1963 on a blind date set up by Roy's brother and Vivian's friend. They were married on February 28, 1965 at Aliceville, KS. After Vivian graduated, they moved and made a home in Wichita. Vivian and Roy welcomed their daughter, Angela, in November 1966. In 1978, they moved to Cheney.
Vivian was a homemaker, loving wife and nurturing mother. Vivian was a great cook (her turkey and pumpkin pie were legendary), enjoyed playing board games with Angela (Vivian always seemed to win the strategy games like Connect 4 and Othello), loved tending her beautiful yard and flower gardens, and collected teddy bears of all types, but especially liked Cherished Teddy figurines and cuddly, soft bears. She also enjoyed her daily walks around Cheney and the golf course with Roy. She possessed a sweet smile, a great sense of humor and was generous, kind and giving to others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; and sister, LaVina Stone. She leaves her daughter, Angela Classen (Michael), Grand Junction, CO; 3 step-grandchildren; sisters Alida Helmer (Robert), Palisade, CO; Darlene Simpson, Garden City, KS; Dorothy Wewer, Garden City, KS; Luetta Moore (Daryl), Gridley, KS; brother Gordon Gleue (Colleen), LeRoy, KS; and many cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 19, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, KS. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery at Aliceville, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Country Care Hospice and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
