Vivian Marsalise Goodman, or "V" as she was nick-named by her grandchildren, was born to Ben and Rosa Marsalise on July 15, 1926 in DeRidder, Louisiana. She attended high school there. She graduated with a teaching degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. She married Clarence Emory Goodman on February 15, 1953 and together they had three children: a son, Dr. Robert Emory Goodman, and two daughters, Anne Goodman Marston and Joan Goodman Baten.
Vivian always had a love of teaching and began teaching swimming to the students at Holy Angels School in 1967. She coordinated that program for many years where she staged water shows complete with costumes, music, synchronized swimming, and boating safety.
She created the ACT Prep course for LSUS in 1987 and was coordinator and teacher in that program for 14 years. One of her passions was to tutor students to prepare them for the ACT in English and Reading. She tutored many students at LSUS and then later privately at her home.
She was a member of many square-dancing groups and clubs. She attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and was involved in the St. Ann's Circle and the "Young-at-Hearts". She was also very active in the Highland Rental Association.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence Emory Goodman, her parents, Ben and Rosa Marsalise, three sisters, Catherine Rourke, Mary Ann Robertson, and Lucille Stevenson; and two brothers, Carl Marsalise and Benny Marsalise.
Survivors include three children, Dr. Robert Emory Goodman (Cindy), Anne Goodman Marston, (Jimmy) and Joan Goodman Baten. She is also survived by five grandchildren, James Michael Goodman, Caroline Marston, Phillip Emory Goodman, James Gray Marston, IV (Courtney) and John Michael Baten, and three great grandchildren: Chandler Elaine Deniakos, Vivian Gray Marston, and James Gray Marston, V. Mrs. Goodman is survived by one brother, Lee Marsalise, (Willene), one brother-in-law, Rod Stevenson, many dear nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and her many friends.
