Vladimir, of Clovis, California, passed away on June 14, 2025, at the age of 73, after several weeks in the hospital from an unfortunate accident. He was a loving husband and caring father.
Vladimir was born in Syracuse, New York, a first generation American, in 1952 to Alexis and Helene Lobkowski. His family moved to Clovis, California when he was just seven weeks old, and lived there until they moved to
Madera, California in 1957, where the family operated a beekeeping business. Vladimir attended Eastern Arcola Elementary School and Madera High School, graduating in 1970. He went on to California State University at Fresno, where he received a B.A. Degree in Russian Language/Literature, Class of 1974, Summa Cum Laude. He first set eyes on his future wife, Darlene (Davis), on March 1, 1987, on the steps of St. Peter the Apostle Serbian Orthodox Church, Fresno, California, where they were married four years later; they were married for 34 years.
Vladimir became a Russian Language Instructor with the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey, Monterey, California in 1976, where he taught until receiving a promotion. He assisted in the planning and relocation of the Russian Language program from the Presidio of Monterey to Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. In 1980 he became a Supervisor of Russian Language Instructors with the Defense Language Institute, at Lackland Air Force Base, and was there until he had to retire on disability in 1985 due to a TBI resulting from an auto accident in 1984.
Vladimir enjoyed collecting coins and gardening, especially tending to his two dozen rose bushes, rose trees, boysenberry vines and fruit trees. In good weather he enjoyed bike riding with a neighbor. When he couldn't be outside, he loved working on Word Search Puzzles and watching old TV shows from his youth.
Vladimir was preceded in death by his parents, and Godmother Anna Gorbatsevich of Syracuse, New York. He is survived by his loving wife, Darlene, daughter Victoria, older brother Alexis Lobkowski, sister-in-law Walene (Davis) Herzog, five nephews, a niece and several great nephews and great nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at the Arbor Vitae Cemetery, 1301 Roberts Ave.,
Madera, California.
