Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sharpe Funeral Home, Inc. on Nov. 19, 2025.
Strength, beauty, wisdom and perseverance were born on April 16, 1966 as John Brown Watlington and JoAnn Spinks Watlington welcomed their only daughter whom they named Vondra Carol. She was a graduate of Western-Alamance High School and was an avid learner. She attended North Carolina Central University and also attended Fayetteville Technical College in pursuit of her Funeral Service Licensure.
Vondra worked for Gold-Toe Hosiery Mills and prior to her illness, she worked for Duke University Medical Center within the Decedent Care Department. Vondra also worked for Burthey Funeral Service of Durham, North Carolina and Davis Royster Funeral Service of Henderson, North Carolina. Spiritually, in her youth she joined Jones Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church and later in life moved her membership to First Baptist Church.
For the last several years Vondra exemplified the traits mentioned afore: strength, beauty, wisdom and perseverance as she dealt with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis. She showed her strength by not giving in, beauty in times when most would quit, wisdom in seeking God for guidance through her trial and she persevered until the very end. Her faith was instrumental in maintaining a positive and upbeat outlook on life. We all can learn a lesson from Vondra, no matter what may come your way, God is able to keep you only if you trust in Him.
Vondra leaves loving and lasting memories to her devoted mother JoAnn Spinks Watlington; her three brothers: Kelvin Lee Watlington, Michael Watlington and Pernell Watlington; 8 nieces & nephews; 16 great-nieces & nephews; 2 God-Sons: De'Maul Woods and Tysean Neal; 5 aunts: Bertha W. Miller (Steve), Virginia T. Miles (Junior), Carolyn A. Bigelow, Shirley Spinks and Patricia Spinks; four uncles: Percy Watlington, Rev. Walter "Jimmy" Watlington (Freda), Larry Watlington and Aaron Watlington; special friend: Delacie Jacobs
On May 27, 2025 God whispered and said. "Well done thy good and faithful servant." Vondra Carol Watlington entered into eternal rest joining her loving father John Brown Watlington and many other dear loved ones. Rest well Vondra, we loved you but we know God loved you best.
