W.M. Preston Rodgers, 78, of Ninety Six, husband of Wanda McCowan Rodgers, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born on October 24, 1946 in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John Henry Rodgers, Sr. and Dorothy Meadows Rodgers. Preston leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication.
Preston proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His commitment to fellow veterans continued long after his service, as he became a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA), reflecting his dedication to those who served alongside him. His involvement extended to various organizations, including the Eureka Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 103, Lakeland Marine Corps Detachment 1112, and the Forty and Eight Scottish Rite, illustrating his deep sense of community service and brotherhood.
Professionally, he worked as a technician at Greenwood Mills, where he contributed his skills and dedication to both the Durst and Sloan plants until his retirement. In all aspects of his life, he characterized himself as a family man, lovingly supporting his family and friends.
Preston was formerly a member of Woodfields Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was volunteered in the Mom's Ministry; and member of the finance committee. He was also a member of First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School class. He not only engaged in his own spiritual journey but also inspired those around him with his strong faith in the Lord. He truly lived by the principles he preached, embodying kindness, integrity, and love.
In addition to his wife, Wanda of the home, he is survived by his children, Ginger Lee Williams (Tim) of Hubert, NC and Kimberly Day (John) of Greenwood; grandchildren, Rebecca Norwood, Josie Rude (Jacob), Kelly Wilson, Samantha Norwood, and Preston Day (Bre); and great grandchildren, Piper Rude, Coriann Rude, Presley Day, Ryleigh Day, and Gabby Aparicio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; sister, Louise Kittles; and brother, John Henry Rodgers, Jr.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Atkins officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Riggins, Bubba Wells, Eddie Paris, Ronnie Butler, Steve Butler, and Jack Butler.
Honorary escort will be Michael Edwards, Will Edwards, Jason Swansey, Dylan Swansey, and Eli Swansey.
The family will receive friends before the service on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the V.F.W. and D.A.V. flag fund.

Wanda and family, I am so sorry to hear about Preston. We went to school together. He came to a few of the class reunions. He was always such a nice and friendly person. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Judy Turner Harris
