Wallace Alford Irby, 89, resident of Greenwood, loving husband of Ann Shaw Irby passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at his home surrounded by family.

Born in Greenville SC, he was the son of the late Marcus and Agnes Beggs Irby. A US Air Force veteran, Wallace served his country with pride from 1953-1957. He retired from Carolina Pride after many years of service and later retired from Greenwood School District 50 serving as a gate guard. He was a member of Rice Memorial Baptist Church and the Unity Sunday School Class.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 68 years are his daughter Denise Youngblood(Chip), son Steve Irby (Odessa); grandchildren Ryan Irby (Shelby), Hannah Balchin (Tanner); great-grandchildren Austin Youngblood, Kaylee Youngblood, Macy Rooney, Connor Balchin, Jenna Balchin, and Hudson Irby; sisters Betty Reeves of Belton SC, Sybil Massey of Saluda, Diane Johnson Calliham of Williamston; brother Pete Irby of Honea Path; along with numerous nieces and nephews and his fur baby, Minnie Mouse.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Lee Youngblood and sisters Alice Simpler, Peggy Weathers, Barbara Jackson, Jeanette Vaughn, and a brother Wilburn Irby.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon, Monday from the Chapel of Blyth Funeral Home with Pastor Zack Shaw and Rev. Dale Levan officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Ryan Irby, Austin Youngblood, Tanner Balchin and nephews Michael Johnson, Greg Reeves and Eric Massey. Honorary pallbearers are Art Youngblood, Hob Chandler, Jack Cobb and David Butler.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 11:00am until the time of service.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, or Rice Memorial Baptist Church1975 Highway 72 West, Greenwood , SC 29649.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Jennifer McCall of All Ways Caring, nurse Kayla Beaty and staff of Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, Tabitha Dukes, Michelle Calliham and Angela Anthony for their love and support during this time.
