Walter Frank Dreyer

Walter Frank Dreyer died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 4, 2025 in Morristown, NJ. He was 83.
Walter was born on August 12, 1941, son to the late Julia (Hauck) and Walter H. Dreyer.
He graduated from Union High School, class of 1959 and attended every reunion he could.
Walter was a long time business owner. In 1993 Walter and his sons founded and operated Dreyer's Lumber & Hardware in Chatham, NJ. Then in 2014 they established a second location in Oakhurst, NJ. For 32 years, Walter enjoyed his daily interaction with his employees, customers, and suppliers. Prior to joining the retail side of the lumber business, Walter worked on the wholesale side with Midstate Lumber Corp for 34 years. Walter was hardworking and dedicated to the industry. His outgoing personality allowed him to develop many friendships and professional relationships over the years. He was well respected by many. Walter was treasurer for the New Jersey Building Material Dealers Association for many years and at one point in his career was given the "Lumberman of the Year" award in 1999.

Walter loved to spend time down the shore with family and friends in Manasquan, NJ. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with friends.
Walter is survived by his wife of 58 years Susan J. (Kopp) Dreyer, His two sons Russell W. Dreyer and his wife Sally, and Glenn F. Dreyer, and his daughter Lauren Dreyer-Franklin and her husband Jason. He is also survived by his brother Robert Dreyer and his wife Ellen, a sister Barbara and her husband Angelo Grillo, and his adored grandchildren Kelsey Dreyer and her husband Matt Meyers, Ryan Dreyer, Brendan Dreyer, Connor Dreyer, Alyse Franklin, Jack Franklin and Kyle Franklin .
Visitation will be Thursday May 8, 2025 from 4-8 PM at the Valley Memorial Funeral Home 1012 Valley Road, Gillette, NJ. A Funeral Service will be Friday 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Cremation is private.
