Walter Rex LaMar, 75, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2024 at his home outside of Martinsville.
He was born Monday, December 27, 1948 to the late Walter Leolla and Thelma Freida (Finchum) LaMar in Martinsville.
Walter was a graduate of Martinsville High School and retired from Mitchel and Scott Machine Company in Indianapolis where he worked as a machinist. He previously worked at Twigg Corporation in Martinsville. Walter was a strong Christian who attended Destin to Win Christian Center for several years. He loved his family and would play Mario Bros. with his brothers Randy and Raymond every day. He was a terrific cook who collected thousands of recipes and recipe books over the years. Walter loved to go out to eat, especially Dairy Queen and loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Deborah Regina (Stringer) LaMar who he married July 20, 1969; son, William LaMar; daughter, Regina Atkins and husband John; brothers, Raymond LaMar and wife Tura, Ronnie LaMar and wife Becky, Randy LaMar and wife Chris; sister, Karen Willis; grandchildren, John Atkins, Alyssa Hall, Elizabeth LaMar; great grandchildren, Ciarra LaMar, Stella Hall, Temperance Hall, Rosalie Hall.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Walter and Thelma; brothers, Roy LaMar and Dennis LaMar.
Visitation is 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Costin Funeral Chapel. Services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating.
Walter will be laid to rest at Mt. Gilead Cemetery at a later date.
