Walter W. Nelson, Jr., age 82, of Glenview, Illinois, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Walter lived a life full of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

Born on December 7, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Walter was a proud graduate of Lane Tech High School, where he played football and began forming the values of dedication and perseverance that would define his life. He married the love of his life, Carole, in 1963, and together they built a beautiful family, raising eight children.

Walter was a passionate entrepreneur who founded his own company. His tireless work ethic was driven by his desire to provide a wonderful life for his family. Despite his busy career, Walter never missed a moment - he was a constant presence at his children's school events and sporting activities. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.

He was known for his incredible cooking, his love of history, and his deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. One of his greatest passions was fishing, and he found peace and happiness at his beloved lake house in St. Germain, Wisconsin.

Walter is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carole Nelson; his children Todd (Michele) Nelson, Heather (Bill) Diehl, Kristen Nelson, Tiffany (Chris) Kosla, Marc Nelson, and Brent (Lisa) Nelson; and his thirteen grandchildren: Ashley, Kyle, Hayden, Aubrey, Barak, Blake, Peyton, Cameron, Olivia, Grant, Kayla, Brianna, and Gabriella.

He was preceded in death by his daughters Kimberly (John) Horlamus and Renee Nelson.

Walter will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his generous spirit, and the joy he brought to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 17th from 4-8 pm at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road, Glenview. Service will be held on Friday, July 18th at 11 am at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home. Interment Ridgewood Cemetery.
