Walter Dean Stemler

Walter Dean Stemler of Veneta, Oregon passed away at the age of 66 on April 21st, 2024. Walt was born the youngest of six in Charlotte, Michigan in 1958 to John and Edith Stemler. After graduating from Lakewood High School, Walt earned a Bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and would go on to earn a Master's in Speech and Hearing at Portland State University.
After moving to Eugene, Oregon Walt met the love of his life, Sheila, and her daughter Aleisha. Walt and Sheila were married August 10, 1986, in Memphis Tennessee, and Walt officially became Aleisha's second dad. After moving to Portland, Oregon, Cassandra was born in 1988.
Walt dedicated himself to helping others hear and he enjoyed an exceptional career as an audiologist. Over four decades Walt perfected the art of fitting hearing aids. His career involved life-long learning, training, and teaching others, and traveling as far away as Costa Rica and American Samoa. Most of all Walt loved helping his patients hear and his patience, empathy, attention to detail and dedication earned him a reputation as one of the best in his field.
Walt was known for his kindness, patience, and his sense of humor. He loved his family deeply and spent his life caring for others. Intelligent and creative, Walt enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life including hiking, running marathons, and playing the guitar and harmonica.
Walt lost his beloved wife Sheila in 2020. He is survived by his five siblings Carole, Danny, Jeanette, Sue, and Terry, his daughters Aleisha and Cassandra, and his grandchildren Skye, Gabriel, and Tavi.
Walt was dearly loved by his family and friends, and he will be missed.
