Walter Herman Stoll

1927 – 2025

On Saturday August 29, 2025, Walter Herman Stoll, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at the age of 98. Born August 14th1927, to Herman and Elsie Stoll, Walt was raised in Seattle WA with his sisters Trudie and Marlene and brother Fred.

Walt became an Eagle Scout in his middle school years and attended Roosevelt high school in Seattle. During high school, Walt worked at his family-owned Madison Park Bakery, and as a lifeguard at Madison Park beach on Lake Washington and Green Lake beaches in Seattle.

During Walt's Junior year of high school, he was recruited to join the United States Navy for the war effort and was accepted into the Naval Flight School program with orders to begin training after his high school graduation in 1945. Due to the war ending during his senior year and no longer a need for pilots, his orders were revised to attend Submarine school where he became an electrician and served on the submarine USS Seadog for his military service during peace time.

Once Walt's military service was fulfilled, he attended the University of Washington graduating in 1952.

While attending a Pacific Telephone Company event with friends at Pine Lake near Issaquah WA, he first met his future wife, Jacqueline Petty. A few weeks later, a second coincidental encounter happened at a dance in Birch Bay, WA- and as they say, the rest is history.

Walt and Jacquie married in September of 1950, which lasted over 74 years until her death earlier this year.

Walt graduated from the UW in 1952, and he and Jacquie moved to Spokane WA to begin his new career and their lives together starting a family. Sons Chris and Mark soon arrived just 11 months apart, then Brad and Lee a few years later, having 4 sons within 10 years.

In 1966, Walt and Jacquie built their home at Liberty Lake, WA to accommodate their growing family. Once most of the boys were grown, a job transfer took Walt and Jacquie to Danville CA in 1979, then returned to Bothell, WA in 1985 to retire and be closer to their children and extended families.

Walt worked for Kaiser Aluminum, his entire professional career of nearly 38 years. When not at work, Walt always had a handful of home projects underway, instilling a great work ethic by example, working and teaching side by side with his four boys throughout their upbringing.

Walt also enjoyed and shared many hobbies with the family to include snow skiing, golf, camping, boating, cards/dominos and travel.

In retirement, Walt enjoyed spending time with his sons and extended family, assisting with everyone's home and/or work projects. Walt was active in the Lutheran Church and enjoyed bible study and church activities. He and Jacquie traveled extensively domestically and abroad and enjoyed exploring and learning about people and places around the world through the Elder Hostel Program.

Walt was a remarkable man whose warmth, wisdom, and devotion as a mentor, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather left an indelible mark on everyone he met.

Walter is preceded in death by his wife Jacquie, daughter-in-law Barbara Stoll, grandchildren Shanda Walla and Ryan Johnson, and sisters Trudie Leiben and Marlene Riemer.

He is survived by his brother Fred Stoll (Nancy), sons Chris Stoll, Mark Stoll, Brad Stoll (Sherry), Lee Stoll (Lori), grandchildren Michael Johnson (Rose), Mandi Hayes (Joel), Scott Stoll (Shay), Lisa Haffey (Conner), Evan Stoll (Sophia), Cory Stoll (Hayley), Taylor Jackson (Matthew), Larson Stoll, and great grandchildren Sarah Hayes, Katie Hayes, Jessica Walla, Jackson Stoll, Bridget Haffey, Patrick Haffey and Michael Haffey.
