It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Cooper Whitt, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on January 25, 2025 at the age of 83. Cooper touched the lives of many and was known for his deep love, kindness, and unwavering support. He will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A passionate sports fan, Cooper was an avid supporter of the Philadelphia Phillies and the University of Kentucky's basketball and football teams. His enthusiasm for these teams was matched only by his love for spending time with his family. Whether cheering on his favorite teams or enjoying trips to the beach and beyond with his beautiful wife Linda, Cooper found joy in life's simple pleasures like playing golf with his many golf buddies in Frankfort and Bradenton.
Cooper was also a staunch advocate for students and teachers in Kentucky. He worked as a teacher/guidance counselor in Jefferson and Fayette Counties and then as Director of Federal Education programs in Pike County. He also led several programs for the Kentucky Department of Education throughout his 30 year career in education.
Cooper, following his tenure with the Kentucky Department of Education, continued his work on behalf of Kentucky's public schools and teachers as an investigator and compliance officer for the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission and the Office of Education Accountability.
Upon retirement, Cooper dedicated much of his time lobbying the Kentucky Legislature and the United States Congress with his dear friend, Don Hines, on behalf of Kentucky's public schools and retired teachers. He was a well respected educator and advocate for public schools and public school teachers.
Above all, Cooper was most proud of his children and grandchildren. attending and admiring the many accomplishments of his grandkids which included a Doctor, a lawyer, a Bellarmine University graduate, playing in the Boys basketball State Tournament in Rupp Arena or competing in College gymnastics at Rhode Island College.
His love for his family knew no bounds, and his greatest joy came from seeing them thrive and grow. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Cooper was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Bradenton, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E. Whitt and Vicie Keesee Whitt.
Cooper is survived by his loving wife, Linda; his children, John South (Kim), Jesse (Sarah); and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan Whitt, Dr. South Whitt (Alli), Natalie Whitt Dyche (Aaron), Caroline Whitt, Keaton Whitt, and Carson Ann Whitt. He is also survived by his sibling, Kathryn Zachem, and nieces Nancy and Mary.
A Celebration of His Life will be held on Saturday, February 22 at the Cobblestone Estates Clubhouse, 10001 Glasgow Blvd. in Louisville from 2-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bridge of Life founded by DaVita.

So sorry to hear this. He adored Linda and loved his boys. I was fortunate enough to have Jesse (son) and Ethan (grandson) in class. They both were so kind to others just like Cooper. God bless you all. I know Cooper will be missed! Diana & Donald Mefford
