Karnes & Son Funeral Home - DyerWaymon T. Sims, 86, of Yorkville, TN passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2025, at The Waters of Union City nursing home. Born May 16th, 1939, in Mason Hall, to Thurman & Lottie Sims. He graduated from Mason Hall High School in 1957.
He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Yorkville, where he served as Deacon for many years.
Mr. W.T. was an employee of the Yorkville Telephone Company for 38 ½ years where he began his career as a lineman and later became the manager.
W.T will be remembered for his many acts of community service including several programs in the Yorkville Community. He helped organize the Yorkville Fire Department. In the early 70’s, he helped create the Yorkville baseball program and coached as well. He helped bring gospel singings to the Yorkville area for over 30 years. He volunteered as coach of the Yorkville Boys Basketball Jr. high program. Upon retirement, he served on the board of Gibson County Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his son, Stan (Malinda) Sims; daughter, Stephanie Rodgers; five grandchildren, Chris (Stephenie) Sims, Alex Sims, Seth Rodgers, Nate Rodgers, Weston Rodgers; seven great-grandchildren, Lucas & Everett Whitaker, Nora Jean Sims, Chasity Sims, Heath Sims, Harlee Sims, Lincoln Sims; and brother-in-law, Elwood Doss. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Brenda of 67 years; and two sisters, Benita (Bobby)Williams and Carolyn Doss.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 5th from 6PM-8PM and Saturday, September 6th from 10AM-11AM, with funeral services beginning at 11am at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorkville, TN, with Bro. Billy Criswell and Bro. Craig Peevyhouse officiating. Interment will follow in Mason Hall Cemetery in Mason Hall. (4971 Tyson Store Rd., Kenton, TN)
Honoring Mr. Sims as pallbearers will be Chris Sims, Alex Sims, Seth Rodgers, Nate Rodgers, Weston Rodgers, and Heath Sims. Honorary pallbearers are Lucas & Everett Whitaker, and Lincoln Sims.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bethel Baptist Youth.
