New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church for Wayne “Dugie” Dugas, 77, who passed away on Friday, December 30, 2022.
Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Keith Landry will be the Celebrant
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Dugas was born February 16, 1945 to the late Leopold “Polo” and Margaret Romero Dugas. He attended Catholic High and was a 1963 graduate of New Iberia Senior High, where he played football. Mr. Dugas also played football at LSU and was a graduate of U.S.L., now the University of Louisiana Lafayette. A retired insurance agent, he served as an usher at his church, Sacred Heart of Jesus, and was a active with SMILE Community Action New Iberia and was a member of the Pit and Pot Supper Club. Most of all, Dugie enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Suire Dugas; son, Jacques Latour (Terry); daughter, Nicole Latour; grandchildren, Jenna Latour, Sydni Latour, Gabbi Gaspard, Trevor Gaspard and Courtney Derouen (Trei); great grandchildren, Dax Derouen and Drake Derouen; sister, Paula Guilbeau (Charlie); brother, Ned Dugas; godchild, Christian Thibodeaux; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Ellen Pousson Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Ket Pham, Trevor Gaspard, Trei Derouen, Christian Thibodeaux, Max Koch and Kevin Gaspard.

"Dugie" was one of the most genuine & kind gentlemen I have ever known. He was a real friend. I always enjoyed talking politics with him. I am sure he will be missed by his loving family. Rest In Peace!

My heart goes out to Paula, Ned, Ruby and all the family on Wayne's passing. He was a good guy. I have always appreciated his kindness and warm welcome. I am so sorry that this has happend.
