Wayne Eugene Johnson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, at the age of 94. He was born on May 7, 1930, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Harry and Pearl Johnson.
Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He dedicated 37 years of his life to the BNSF Santa Fe Railroad, retiring as Bridge Supervisor. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Retiring on Lake Tawakoni, Wayne enjoyed boating and the natural beauty around him. He and his wife also shared a deep passion for travel, visiting fascinating destinations both in the United States and abroad, with memorable trips to the Panama Canal and the Amazon River.
Wayne was an active and engaged member of his community. He designed and oversaw construction of the new Tawakoni Public Area Library and remained an active supporter. A dedicated leader, Wayne served for 20 years on the Combined Consumers Specialty Utility District. He also served as President of the Fox Point Homeowners Association. Wayne's generosity and kindness extended to his neighbors, as he was always willing to lend a hand to help others.
Wayne's legacy is one of love, service, and community. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Virginia Johnson, their daughters Jamie Penner, Lori Johnson, Lisa Braunberg and husband Andrew, and Jill Krause and husband Matt; his surviving siblings: sister Clara Betterton and his brother, Don Johnson; grandchildren Chelsea Hendley, Austin Penner, Rachel McCoy, Julia Krause, Matthew Krause, Maggie Krause and Genny Krause, and great grandchildren Oaklii Young and Ellie McCoy.
The family will host a Memorial Service at Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas on Saturday, March 22nd. Visitation begins at 1:00 and the service will begin at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville and to the Tawakoni Area Public Library.
At a later date, Wayne will later be laid to rest with family at Garfield Cemetery located in Garfield, Kansas.
