Wayne Crowell McDaniel, 73, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Mr. McDaniel was born in Taylors to the late Wyatt Young McDaniel II and Alucia Crowell McDaniel. He was a member of Selma Baptist Church. Wayne was an alumna of Wofford University and a graduate of the SC Police Academy. He retired from the Spartanburg City Police Department and the Wofford University Security Office. Wayne was a member of the Pauline Masonic Lodge #81 and the HEJAZ Shriner. He was a fan of NASCAR and the Atlanta Braves. Wayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, and time at the gun-range. He was a collector of clocks, nautical trinkets and Civil War literature. He loved family history and cherished be "Papa" to his grandchildren.
Surviving are a son, Josh McDaniel with wife Kim; two daughters, Rachel Childers with husband Ricky; eight grandchildren, Jacob Cudd with wife Ashton, Brittni Ramirez with husband Micheal, Timothy Childers with wife Savannah, Leah Wilson with husband Josh, Isaac Cudd, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Mack McDaniel.
A celebration of Wayne's life will begin at 4 o'clock Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Danny Garrett and Rev. Fred Quidley. Masonic Rites will be rendered by Pauline Masonic Lodge #81 and Police Honors will be performed by the Spartanburg Police Department Honor Guard. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Memorials in Wayne's honor may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

I had the honor to work with Wayne during his time at Wofford and so appreciated his smile and professionalism. He was always talking how much he loved and was proud of his entire family. I will always have a smile when I hear his name and think of the great impact he had on those around him.
