Weldon A. Nash, Jr., age 81, passed away on December 26, 2024. He was born in Brunswick, GA, on April 18, 1943, to the late Weldon A. Nash, Sr., and Bertha Mae Courson Nash Wilson. He was indeed one of a kind. He cherished his wife and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Weldon and Jayne met at Tucker High School, where he played football during one of the longest winning streaks in Tucker's football history. Weldon and Jayne were married at First Baptist Church of Tucker in September of 1962 while he was attending Georgia Tech and enjoyed 62 years of marriage.
Weldon loved Georgia Tech and attended as a benefactor of his father's military service and sacrifice for our country at the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
Weldon began his career as an engineer and later built many custom homes and developed neighborhoods in the Metro Atlanta area. He also served as president of the Dekalb Homebuilders Association and on the state and national boards of directors. Weldon also served on the Board of Directors for Tucker Federal Savings and Loan.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many hours in deer stands and on the water with his 2 sons and daughter. As an avid water skier and amateur snow skier, he mastered getting off the ski lift in just 7 seasons and only one broken ankle.
He was a lifelong member of Rehoboth Baptist Church, where he was ordained a Deacon and later served as Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He spent countless hours coaching boys and girls on the ballfields, volunteering as a youth leader and Sunday School Director. He was also the Chairman of the building committee for the new Children's building, built in 1992.
We lost a great man, and while we are saddened, we also take comfort in knowing that he has set an example for his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and countless others with whom he shared the love of Jesus.
Weldon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Paul Wilson. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jayne Randolph Nash; his children Bob Nash (Lisa) of Eatonton, GA, Wanda Stidham (Jeff) of Snellville, Ga, and Alex Nash (Julie) of Greensboro, GA.; sister, Sheila Lord of Loganville, Ga, brother, James Wilson of Suwanee, FL, 14 grandchildren, Bert, Nicholas, Coty, Zachary, Austin, Billy, Addison, Maegan, Andrew, Will, Avery, Wyatt, Ashley, Wesley and four great-grandchildren, Emerson, Ellie, Lainey and Micah. He loved Jesus, and we now celebrate his being with his mom and dad in Heaven.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, December 29th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, December 30th, from 11:00 to 12:00 noon. The service will follow at 12:00 noon at the Bill Head Funeral Home, 6101 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker, GA. A graveside service will follow at Rehoboth Cemetery. A reception will follow at Rehoboth Baptist Church.
