Whitney Ann Ryder, age 46, of Mount Laurel, NJ passed away on June 12, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and friends.
She was born in Voorhees and attended Eastern High School and Rutgers University. She was a beloved teacher at Burlington Township Middle School, having started her career 23 years ago at the newly opened Fountain Woods School before moving to BTMS. She shared her unique light and kind smile as she fulfilled her lifelong goal of being an educator.
Her intelligence, compassion, and positivity allowed her to impact the lives of many students. Some of her best memories were of students who might not have fit into the system as it had been designed, but who she was able to connect with through her determination and creativity. She derived immense joy and had so much fun being part of a community of colleagues who she counted not just as professional collaborators but as dear friends, especially some OGs that were with her till the very end.
She coached soccer in Mt. Laurel and was a fixture at her children's sporting events. She loved to stay physically active and was a talented athlete in her youth. She was the MVP of her high school softball team, played soccer, skied, and roller skated like a champion, including going backwards at inadvisable speeds.
Whitney cherished the time she spent with her family, friends, and neighbors, listening to music, dancing, laughing, and smiling. She was a force of nature, lifting up those around her, and leaves a legacy of love and true friendship that will not be forgotten.
Whitney was predeceased by her parents, Bob and Meredith Morett. She is survived by her husband of 18 years, TJ Ryder; her children, Madison and Nicholas; her siblings, Dawn Lee Ewald (Paul), Eve Gray, Matthew Morett (Dorothy), Christopher Morett (Joanne), Naza Hajra, and Seferxhane Kravitz (Tim); Aunt Heather Calabrese; cousins, Ken Calabrese, Jeff Denson, and Kim Roberts. Also survived by nieces and nephews, Ryan, Katelyn, Brianna, Aaron, Joseph, Noah, Chloe, and Vincent, and other family and dear cousins.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday June 22, 2023 from 11:30am to 2:30pm at the Mount Laurel Home for Funerals, 212 Ark Road, Mount Laurel, NJ 08054. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Whitney Ryder Memorial Scholarship, which is being established in her honor and will be awarded to a Burlington Township High School graduate who is pursuing a career as an educator.
