Wilburn Jennings, 80, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024 at his residence. He was born on April 18, 1944 in the community of Lower Oak Grove.
Wilburn was preceded in death by his parents, Arvil and Ina Thornsberry Jennings.
Wilburn lived most of his life on the family farm.
Wilburn graduated from Rowan County High School in 1963 and married Edwina Jo Perry Jennings on October 2, 1964.
He was a farmer, raised cattle, horses, tobacco and Jo’s dogs. He was a workaholic. His first paying job was at Morehead Tobacco Warehouse. In 1965, he began working with construction jobs at MSU Campus (East Mignon, Nunn, Alumni, Cartmell and Reed). Wilburn worked as equipment maintenance for Meade Paper and manager of Meade Pulpwood Yard at Farmers, Kentucky and South Portsmouth, Kentucky. He finished his career at MSU, along with Cyril Conn in maintenance until he retired in 2000.
Wilburn was borned again on October 28, 1973 and followed his Lord and Savior in believers’ baptism on November 4, 1973. Pastor Bert McBrayer performed the baptism on a chilly morning having to break ice to walk into the water. At Elliottville Baptist Church, he was ordained as Deacon and assisted Pastor McBrayer with baptisms. He also worked with ministries, visitation, building and grounds and bus ministry.
In 1994, Wilburn became a charter member of Clearfield Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon, building and grounds and fellow outings with several pig roasts and hayrides. He was the coffeemaker and ice-man.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jesse and Ethel Mabry Jennings and James and Elizabeth Lykins Thornsberry and brothers, Troy Edward Jennings and Tilmon Jennings.
Survivors include his wife, Edwina Jo Perry Jennings, a daughter, Kristi Jennings Dehart and a son, Bradley Jennings and blessed by a step grandson, Moxon Dehart. Also, survived by a sister, Francis Catron (Chester), sisters-in-law, Carleen Perry, Christine Jennings and Shirley Jennings, nieces and nephews, Danny Catron (Julie), Shannon Catron (Dana), Kim Harris, Lisa Pfeiffer (Scott) and Don Jennings, several great nieces and nephews, a great-great-nephew and special caregivers, Tammy Spurlock and Sheila Hamilton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Clearfield Baptist Church with Pastor Luther Thomack officiating.
Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.
Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Dowdy, Clifford Porter, Chester Catron, Shannon Catron, Gale Thornsberry, Troy Wayne Howard, Arlie Perry and Dale Perry.
Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Catron, John McBrayer, Kenny Wilson, Scott Elliott, David Hamm, Curt Cundiff, John Cox and Don Jennings.
