William Andrews Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 5, 2024.
"Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord" (Matt.25:23).
With love in knowing him and sorrow at his departure, the family of William James Andrews acknowledges his passing on May 3rd, 2024 after a valiant battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Bill was born on October 21, 1945, in Hornell, N.Y. to the late George Andrews and Dorothy Ramlow Andrews. He graduated from Hornell High School in Hornell, N.Y. in 1965 and embarked on a career in printing. In 1967, he and his new bride, Nancy Simmons, moved to Albion, N.Y, allowing him to complete his 7-year apprenticeship. In 1972 the family moved to Olean, N.Y. In 1992, the
next move found the family in Moore County, N.C. Bill spent several more years in the printing industry before taking a position with Moore Co. Department of Aging. Retiring in 2007, he then went on to several other interesting jobs- CCNC greens maintenance, Penick Village Activities & Transportation, and finally at Ace Hardware.
From the time Bill and his family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1969, he has served the Lord and his fellow man with all the dedication and faith he had. He and Nancy served an 18-month church mission to Albania in 2013; a dream realized after years of spiritual preparation. He was a common man, a "good guy", a marvelous husband, dad, and grandpa. He loved to "drown worms", garden, travel back and forth across the U.S., go camping, watch Jeopardy, and hang out with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Simmons Andrews. He is the father of Charles (Noe), Jim (Mei), Jill, Jeffrey (Jenn), and Daniel (Keli) and grandfather of Devon, Anna, Wren, Justice, Jay, Jocelyn, Fletcher, Everett, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brother, George Andrews (Marilyn), and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Rte 15-501 Pinehurst. There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. with the funeral service to follow.
Memorials may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, First Health Hospice, or St. Jude's Hospital. Many thanks to the wonderful medical personnel at Duke Cancer Center, First Health of
the Carolinas Cancer Center, and First Health Hospice Services. A special Thank You to Dr. Laura Hansen and the wonderful nurses who not only gave us hope but delivered a year of joy that meant the world to Bill and his family.

Bill was and is a true friend. Always welcoming whether it was during the time we lived close by or when we lived long distance. And for sure the laughs came when you'd get together!
