William “Bill” Charles Baird, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and

cherished member of the Wise County community, passed away on October

16, 2025, in Decatur, Texas. Born on April 3, 1942, in DeKalb, Illinois, to

Thomas and Mandy Baird, Bill lived a life defined by hard work, faith, and

love for his family.

For more than 20 years, Bill served as a store manager for service

stations/convenience stores, where he was often assigned to

underperforming locations. Through his dedication and people-first

approach, he consistently turned those stores around, always earning the

respect and admiration of his employees. Later, he managed a Kwik Kar

location before joining Walmart, where he worked as a cashier and joyfully

served as Santa Claus each Christmas for nine years—a role that made him a

familiar and beloved figure throughout Wise County.

Bill served his country in the United States Army, spending three years

stationed in Germany in the late 60s/early 70s. His time in service reflected

his strong sense of duty, humility, and pride in his nation.

A member of First Baptist Church of Alvord, Bill’s faith in Jesus guided his

life and shaped his character. His gentle nature, humor, and steadfast faith

touched everyone who knew him. He loved to talk to anyone who would

listen and always had a story to tell—stories that made everyone around him

smile.

In his leisure time, Bill loved golf, a passion he carried throughout his life.

He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing computer games, spending

time with his family, and listening to audiobooks, especially westerns by

authors such as Louis L’Amour and Zane Grey—as well as listening to the

Bible.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Baird of Alvord; his

son Thomas Baird and wife Nicole, also of Alvord; and his daughter Martha

McGregor and husband Parks, of Lewisville. He was a proud grandfather to

Rachel, Joshua, Nadia and husband Camron, Elizabeth, and Leila, all of

whom will carry his love and legacy forward.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Charles Baird and Mandy

Ellen Baird; his sister, Patricia Smith; and his sons, Joseph and Jacob Baird.

Though he is no longer with us, Bill’s life will continue to shine through the

faith, kindness, and love he instilled in those who knew him. His legacy is

one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and enduring joy.
