William Charles "Charley" Barnes III

A graveside service for William Charles Barnes III, 72, of Houston will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at the Ledbetter Cemetery in Ledbetter, Texas. Officiating will be Dr. Duane Brooks, Pastor of William's Houston Home church, Tallowood. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 2, 2024 in the barn at Prairie Skies, William's home, in Ledbetter.
Known to all as Charley, William Barnes III was born October 8, 1951 in Dallas, Texas to
William Charles Barnes Jr. and Kathryn Elizabeth Thomas Barnes. The family moved to
Houston when he was seven. Shortly after, he became a paperboy for The Houston Chronicle where, channeling his strong drive to achieve, he was awarded "Paperboy of the Year."
After graduating from Westchester High School in 1970, Charley earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University in 1975 and his master's degree from A&M in 1977. Both were in Geophysics. His career was in the oil and gas industry.
On August 21 1976, he was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Rolon. They were blessed with three children, William Charles IV, Daniel Alexander and Haley Elizabeth.
He was fascinated with Texas history and gladly shared his knowledge with all who would listen. So much so that he was a proud member of the historical reenactment group and the Cane Island Volunteers of Katy, Texas. The family camped all around the Lone Star State.
Charley had a passion for nature-land sea and sky. A steward of the land, he was a member of the Sandtown Wildlife Management Association. He worked the land so that native grasses could thrive, allowing deer, birds, and other wildlife to have a proper habitat. Charley was an eclipse chaser, and he felt a deep love for the stars. He was always looking up.
Charley passed away the evening of Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at his home in Ledbetter.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, William Charles Barnes Jr. and Kathryn Elizabeth Thomas Barnes.
Charley is survived by his wife, Cynthia Ann Barnes of Houston; two sons, William
Charles Barnes IV of Houston and Daniel Alexander Barnes and wife Stephanie Ann
Barnes of Boerne; one daughter, Haley Elizabeth Lynch and husband, Thomas Joseph
Lynch of Houston; five grandchildren, William Charles Barnes V of Houston, Alexander
Duane Barnes and Ella Grace Barnes of Boerne, Lyra Ann Lynch and Milo Thomas Lynch of Houston; sister, Susan Kay Barnes Lerner and her son Nathan Andrew Lerner of Houston, and brother David Allan Barnes and wife Wendy Lynn Welch Barnes and their son Matthew Barnes of Alleyton, Texas.
Our precious 'Pops' now rests in peace in his heavenly home with our Lord and all his loved ones who have gone before. Forever in our hearts.
