William Derrell Bartley, 88, resident of Ninety Six, loving husband of Josephine Cooner Bartley passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Graniteville, he was the son of the late William Paul Bartley and Mary Ruby McMahan Bartley Seigler.
A graduate of Greenwood High School he was also a proud veteran of the US Air Force, having served in Texas, Mississippi, New York, and Thule, Greenland and during the Bay of Pigs incident. He was formerly employed with GE Moore Contracting and with the Greenwood Fire Department from 1963 to 1971. He retired from Self Memorial Hospital as maintenance manager after having served from 1971 to 1999.
He was of the Methodist Faith.
Surviving are in addition to his loving wife of 62 years are his daughter, Derrelyn Weeks (Frank) of Greenwood and son, Paul Bartley (Sara) of Greer; grandchildren Michaela and Haylee Weeks, and Andrew and Samuel Bartley.
He is also survived by step-sisters, Shirley Perry and Betty Turk; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Linda Cooner; and a cousin, Sarah Lee Harwell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-father, Jones Seigler, step-brothers, Winfred Seigler and Harold Seigler; step-sisters, Charlotte Gunnells and Delina Montgomery; brothers-in-law, Martin Cooner and Francis Cooner, Jr; and sisters-in-law, Lenora Cross, Agnes Nickles and Elizabeth Anderson.
The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 5 to 7 Sunday afternoon.
Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 am Monday at the Diamond B Farms, the family farm, with Rev. Dr. Shawn Armstrong officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to Alzheimer's and Dementia Foundation, 109 Anderson St. SE, Suite 601, Marietta, GA 30060, or to the charity of one's choice.
