William "Bill" Mathias Rist, 87, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 10, 1938, in Michigan City, IN, to William and Eleanor (Keen) Rist.
On April 8, 1961, in Michigan City, IN, he married Marilyn Porterfield who preceded him in death. Surviving Bill are his children, Michael Rist of La Porte, Patrick Rist of Austin, TX, Barbara Klink of Michigan City, Peggy Patterson of La Porte, and Susan Rist of La Porte; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ellen Wiskemen and Kathy Klingnmeier; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Sue Novak.
Bill proudly served in the United States Navy.
He was a building contractor for many years, owning William Rist's Construction, "Quality worth crowing about!". Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte.
