Lake Providence, LouisianaLAKE PROVIDENCE, LA - Memorial services for William Wade Burton "Bill" age 82 of Mandeville, Louisiana will be held at 2:00pm, Saturday, December 27, 2025, at First Methodist Church, with Pastor Henry Stone officiating.
Interment will be at the Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Vitiation will be in the sanctuary of the First Methodist at 1:00pm preceding the Memorial Service.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Selma Sadie Nelson Burton and Wade Burton.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Madden Burton, his three daughters, Wendy Burton Sandras and husband Dr. Dant Sandras, Christina Burton Cantrell and husband Kevin Cantrell, Kimberly Burton Lawrence and husband Edgar Abbott Lawrence IV, five grandchildren, his lifelong friend Jack Shaffer, his first cousin Joseph Butler, and a host of caring cousins.
It is with deep love and gratitude that we celebrate the life of William Wade Burton, Bill, who passed from this life on November 28, 2025.

Vicksburg, MS and raised in
Lake Providence, LA, Bill was an avid outdoors person who loved water sports, fishing, deer hunting, and turkey hunting. If you asked Bill, he would say that turkey hunting was is favorite sport. He spent many hours in the woods, never tiring of the wonderous outdoors. He had many wonderful hunting buddies who will miss him. He was an avid SEC sports fan. He supported LSU football, basketball, and baseball. He had season tickets to all the football and baseball games. He traveled to the World Series several times, always cheering LSU on. Bill was an avid sportsman growing up in Lake Providence excelling in swimming, basketball and football. He was on the track team his first year at Louisiana Tech. At Tech, he majored in Civil Engineering and upon graduating, entered the master's Program in Business. He spent summers as a college student working for Union Oil. After serving in the US Army as a 2nd lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in Viet Nam, he entered the workforce employed by Chevron Oil Co. as an engineer. His work took his family to all parts of the country. After retirement from Chevron, he formed his own company, William Burton & Associates, which he was involved in for several
years until retiring permanently.
He was a loving father to three beautiful daughters. He doted on his children, Wendy, Christina, and Kimberly and spent many precious moments with them. In later years, he was so proud of his grandchildren, Braden Cantrell, Colton Cantrell, Christian Cantrell, Christiana Cantrell, and Viviana Lawrence. He loved his sons-in-law as his own. After a catastrophic illness several years ago, he was determined to recover and walk his youngest daughter down the aisle in California. He achieved this and enjoyed good health for several years.
Bill enjoyed his yard and was an avid yardman. He spent many hours outside caring for the flowerbeds, mowing, planting. His wife enjoyed the outside was always by his side. When the grandchildren visited from California, he encouraged them to work alongside him in the yard.
He and his wife Peggy enjoyed traveling to Santa Fe many times. To his wife's delight, he became a fan of the outdoor opera in Santa Fe.
Bill was a faithful Methodist and immensely enjoyed Disciple Class during the week. He was an active member of St. Timothy Methodist Church in Mandeville.
Bill was a good husband, father, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
