William Nicholas Carroll, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, passed away November 17, 2021 at the age of 94, after a battle with sarcoma.
He was the only child of Harry Joseph Carroll and Genevieve Rose Carroll (nee Mauderer), born July 31, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY.
Bill graduated from Manasquan High School in Manasquan, NJ, and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. Bill was in the Navy Band, playing reveille, retreat and taps for the troops. He was a gifted musician and valued this service highly. Bill was an expert marksman during his service.
Following his military service Bill graduated from University of Vermont and was hired by IBM, where he spent his career. He retired as the top-level executive for FSD (Federal Systems Division) with 25 patents to his name. Bill oversaw the development of the 'Heads up Display' among other notable accomplishments. After early retirement from IBM, Bill went on to partner with his son, Richard, and build Digital System Resources, Inc. which became a top 100 Department of Defense Research and Development Firm.
Bill is survived by his spouse, Joan Jule Carroll (nee Limpert), his daughter Linda J Dickson (nee Carroll) and his sons, Richard W Carroll (Suzanne), and Robert J Carroll (Liz) plus 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A service honoring the life of William Nicholas Carroll will be held at
3:00 PM on December 4, 2021 at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home and Crematory, 28300 Tamiami Trail South, Bonita Springs, Florida 34134.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the University of Vermont, in Bill's name.
