William "Bill" Cassidy, of Gloucester Twp., NJ, passed away on May 11, 2025, at the age of 81.
Bill's heart found its truest joy in the company of his family. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Joann Cassidy (nee Hughes), with whom he shared a life full of companionship until her passing in 2016. A devoted father, he leaves behind his daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Mariano.
His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Gabrielle "Gabby" Mariano and Thomas "Tommy" Cross who will carry forward his spirit of curiosity and zest for life. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. Bill's memory is also honored by his siblings who predeceased him, Harry Cassidy (the late Edith), Mary Welsh (the late John), Thomas Cassidy (the late Joan), and Eileen Cassidy.
Bill's early years were shaped by dedication to his country. As a young man, he honorably served in the United States Navy, a period of his life that instilled in him values of discipline and commitment that he carried with him always. After his military service, Bill continued to serve his community through his work with the Cherry Hill Public Works Department, where he dedicated nearly 40 years of his life ensuring the well-being and infrastructure of the town he called home.
Education was a cornerstone of Bill's life. He earned a Master's Degree in History from St. Joseph's University, a testament to his love for the past and its stories. This passion for history was one that carried throughout his life. A true history buff, Bill's interests went beyond the pages of textbooks and novels. He was an avid traveler, with a particular fondness for the rich cultures of Europe and the serene beauty of the Caribbean. His love for exploration was a gift he shared with his grandchildren, ensuring they too had the opportunity to experience the wonders of the world.
Bill was a man of simple tastes, finding joy in the pleasures of a good book or the excitement of a college basketball game. He was particularly fond of novels by John Grisham, often losing himself in the legal dramas and thrilling plots crafted by the author. However, nothing compared to the thrill he felt when cheering on his beloved Phillies, a team he supported through every high and low.
Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope Parish / St. Agnes Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. Urn burial at New St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellmawr, NJ will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, P.O.
