AULANDER, NC - William Earl Conner, lovingly known by his CB handle "Dollar Bill," passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, at the age of 85, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, North Carolina. Born in Greenville on October 17, 1939, to the late John Roden Conner and Myrtle Burkett Conner, Billy led a life devoted to family, faith, and service.
He retired as the Bus Superintendent from the Hertford County School System, where he served with dedication and commitment over many years. In his retirement, Billy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: watching baseball games on the television, riding golf carts, fishing, and savoring the meals prepared by his beloved daughter-in-law. His love for driving trucks was only surpassed by his passion for traveling across the United States with his late wife, Marilyn Rose Conner, as they delivered boats together.
A dedicated member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Billy found strength and community within the congregation. His devotion extended beyond his church to his family, whom he cherished deeply. Known as "PopPop" to his great grandchildren, Billy's greatest joys were his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who truly were the apples of his eye.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, Myrtle and John; his son, Chris Conner; his wife, Rose; brothers Johnny Ray Conner and Carrol Grey Conner; and twin sisters, Peggy and Patsy Conner, Billy is survived by his son, Barry Conner and his wife Marie of Aulander; granddaughter, Crystal Alfaro and her husband Juan of Aulander; grandson, Jeff Conner and fiancée Jessica Mobley of Ahoskie; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Anthony Alfaro of New York, Candace Alfaro of Aulander, Bryce and Briley Conner of Merry Hill, and Aliyah Gunnels and Mackenna Rose Conner of Ahoskie. He also leaves behind his brother James Conner and wife Barbara of Williamston, NC, along with countless nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in
