"May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live." If there was a man rich in everything he wanted-and valued-in life, it was Bill. He passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, surrounded by his wife, children, and sister, and held in prayer by many family and friends who loved him.
Bill was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he married Carol (Kondrat), his wife of 60 years. They raised their four children in Northeast Ohio, but Bill remained a loyal Steelers fan until his final day.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army and enjoyed a long sales career. However, those who knew Bill will tell you that what defined him was not what he did for a living but how he lived his life. Blessed with the gift of Irish wit and humor, Bill never passed up an opportunity to make people laugh-at themselves, at situations, or at life. It's what drew people to him.
Bill's relationships and connections spanned generations. He could relate to anyone-kids, young adults, old guys his age, and everyone in between. While the delivery might have been different, the messages always hit home. He never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Ask his kids and grand kids, and they'll tell you that Bill could spin a tale-he grew up as a Little Indian Boy, was a munchkin in The Wizard of Oz, and so many more.
Bill was the life of the party. He also had a very kind heart and was incredibly generous with his time. He volunteered at the church and in the community, including the Jaycees, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, local Veterans chapters, Meals on Wheels, Second Harvest Food Bank, and hospice.
Leading by example, Bill's life of service is the legacy he's passed on to his children, Anne (Michael) Deas, Maureen (Timothy) Moxley, Timothy (Heather) Connor, and Michael (Katie) Connor, 15 grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Megan, Danny, Madeline, Jacob, Ben, Emily, Katie, Sarah, Mary, Michayla, Dawson, Luke, and Liam, and two great-grandchildren, Norah and Nathan. Bill is survived by his wife, children, two sisters, Bernadette Taress and Martha Schmitzer, and Eileen DiMartino (deceased).
Bill was one-of-a-kind and a light in the lives of so many. We miss him already. But we're happy that he's quickly settling in, cutting it up with his friends and family with his golf club in hand. Slán go fóill-farewell for now.
A memorial service will be held Monday. November 25, 2024 at 12:30 pm at St. Matthew Catholic Church Chapel.
If you'd like to honor Bill, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to
Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
