William R. "Bill" Gerrity, age 78, of Macungie, PA, passed away suddenly on January 22, 2023. Bill was born in San Antonio, TX, to William and Josephine Gerrity on July 14, 1944. He grew up in NYC and then upstate NY with his younger sister. Bill graduated from Narrowsburg Central School and went on to graduate from Siena College. He then served in the Air Force for four years during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Thailand for one year and later received his pilot's license. Bill met his wife, Margaret (née Hayes), on a flight coming back from Ireland and they were married in 1976. He worked as an Immigration Officer at JFK Airport for 35 years, retiring in 2005. They then moved from Long Island, NY, to Macungie where they settled into a retirement community. Bill loved traveling, attending 60s rock and roll concerts, and was a zealous Yankees baseball fan. He took up running in his 40s and completed the NYC Marathon twice. He spent his retirement enjoying life as an active member of his church serving as a Eucharistic minister, as treasurer of his local Knights of Columbus division, and as a member of a local Yankees Fan Club, attending many games. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Margaret, his daughter, Martina, and her husband, Gregory Shields, and his two grandsons, Ryan and Dillon. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Laraia, and his parents. Visitation will be held at 10am on Monday, January 30th, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Thomas More Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue in Allentown, PA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to his favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
