Dr. William S. Gustin, 87, passed away January 18th at his home under the care of his wife and Hospice Savannah. He was born in Palatka, Florida to the late Donald and Frances Gustin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Gustin, and his daughter, Brenda Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara W. Gustin, two sons, Dr. James Wylie Gustin, and Richard Donald Gustin (Courtney), daughter, Rachel Zaiser, and 4 grandchildren.

William graduated from Daytona High School in 1956 and attended Emory at Oxford from 1956 -1958, and Emory University and Emory Dental School graduating in 1964. He then completed a three-year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency that included one year at Washington University in St. Louis. Following residency, William began his oral surgery practice in Medical Arts in Savannah.

William was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association and the Georgia Dental Association. William was also a member of Solomon's Lodge #1 for 50 years, the Alee Shriners Medical Unit, and a life sponsor of Ducks Unlimited. He served in the Naval Reserves, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a longtime member of the Forest City Gun Club. William and his wife were residents of Tybee Island for many years prior to moving to Wilmington Island and attended Grace Church of the Islands.

A Memorial Service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at Grace Church of the Islands on January 31 at 11am. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
