William P. "Bill" Hurlock Jr. passed away on Friday April 12, 2024 after years of battling cancer, at his home in Millington, NJ with his loving family at his side. He was 82.
Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA on August 22, 1941 a son to the late Mildred (Johnson) and William P. Hurlock, Sr.
Bill and his wife Ann Louise graduated from Watchung Hill Regional High School in 1959, the second graduating class of new high school.
He served in the US Army for two years during the Vietnam War. During the war Bill married his high school sweet heart Ann Louise Delli Paoli. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, Bill joined the Passaic Township, now the Long Hill Township Police Department in 1966.
On May 18, 1978 Bill risked his own life to successfully talk a man out of committing suicide with a shotgun, while both of them were standing in the middle of the train trestle over the Passaic River in Millington, NJ. For his actions, Bill received the Police Departments highest award, The Medal of Honor. He retired from the Police Department in 1992 reaching the rank of Detective Lieutenant in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division with 26 years of service.
He was a member of P.B.A. 600, The Honor Legion of New Jersey, and the American Legion Post 293 in Warren Township, NJ.
Bill enjoyed playing golf and traveling around the states to play as often as he could.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years AnnLouise, traveled all over the world visiting over 15 countries.
Bill is survived by his wife AnnLouise Hurlock, his son Bill Hurlock, his two daughters Laura Starr, Dorothy Rose and her husband Scott Rose of Warren Township, NJ, his sister Joyce Koenig of Stirling, NJ and seven grandchildren: Kayleigh, Connor, Corey, Jake, Alyssa, Brittany and Ryan, and two nieces Karin and Susan.
A graveside services will be held on April 18, 2024, 11:30 AM at Somerset Hills Memorial Park,95 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. Family will be leaving the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM in a funeral procession.
