William M. Keefer "Bill", 78, of Fortescue, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025, under the care of his family and hospice.
Born in Philadelphia to the late William Keefer and Charlotte Bockman Keefer, he had been the husband of Marylou Peters Keefer. Bill had been a resident of Fortescue for the last 20 years, prior to that he had been a longtime resident of Maple Shade. He graduated from Merchantville High School in 1965. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country proudly.
Bill had been a carpenter for many years with Union Local 158, formerly Union Local 8 of Philadelphia. He had been a member of the Downe Twp. Fire Police for over 15 years, he was also a member of the Parish of the Holy Cross, St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Cedarville. Bill had coached soccer and little league baseball for Maple Shade for several years. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren which were his world.
He is survived by; his wife, Marylou Keefer of Fortescue; his children; Jeanne Edwards (Alan) of Egg Harbor Twp., Gin Keefer (John Melleady) of Franklinville and Marilou Weber (Keith) of Cedarville; grandchildren, Roczen, Bayleigh and Deegan; sisters; Ann Marie Keefer-Lynch of Yorba Linda, CA and Barbara Norcross (Jeffery) of Merchantville; one brother, Edward Keefer (Patricia) of Cherry Hill; sisters-in-law, Regina Zuggi and Dottie Harwas; and his brother-in-law, Joe Peters and special friends Patti and John Crockett, John Doorman, Steve Kuloszewski, Joe and Gladys Esposito, Carol Miller and John Freitag. He was preceded in death by; his parents, William and Charlotte Keefer; and his sister, Patricia Keefer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM on Friday, October 17th at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 367 Main St., Cedarville, NJ, followed by military honors. Friends will be received at the PADGETT FUNERAL HOME 1107 State Highway 77, Upper Deerfield Twp., from 8:30AM to 10:30AM prior to the service at the church. The family asks that those attending wear a flannel shirt and jeans in honor of Bill. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Downe Twp. Fire and Rescue Station 39 at PO BOX 48, Fortescue, NJ 08321. Written condolences can be sent to the family through the funeral home website www.padgettfuneralhomes.com.
