William Kunzman Obituary

William "Bill" or "Billy" Kunzman passed away peacefully at the age of 98 in Littleton, Colorado. A Colorado native, Bill was born in Weldona, Colorado on June 9, 1927. He was the eldest child to Roy and Mary Kunzman and older brother to Betty.

This naturally introverted individual grew up on a farm and graduated from Weldona High School in 1945. He went on to a stint in the US Navy and was called back home following the passing of his father. He eventually graduated college with a major in Agronomy in 1951 from Colorado State University. He decided to pivot to Chemical Engineering and graduated from the University of Denver in 1954. He also obtained his masters from DU in 1962. He eventually worked for many years at Marathon Oil.

In the years following his retirement, he lived life to the fullest. He was an avid bicyclist - riding his bike locally as well as taking international biking trips. He also enjoyed cross-country skiing. He was a passionate hiker - hiking 14ers and taking part in many hikes with the Colorado Mountain Club. He enjoyed dancing - square dancing and polka, too. Through exploring his interests, he fostered years-long friendships that he cherished.

Not only was he active physically, but he was mentally sharp as well. After his retirement, he worked part-time as a math tutor at Aurora Community College. He enjoyed working on statistics and mathematical problems - solving algebraic equations was a hobby for him well into his late 90s. He also enjoyed reading - especially non-fiction. If it had to do with the Civil War, Lincoln or other aspects of U.S. history, he would read giant tomes cover to cover. He stayed current on U.S and World news - reading every section of the New York Times daily. He maintained his interest in science and technology and cared about the future of the environment.

Throughout his life, he remained devoted to his family. He looked out for his mother until her passing and even became his sister's caretaker in her later years. He was kind-hearted and held on to sentimental items from his past - which showed how much he valued the moments old photos captured or how special those happy memories were to him.

He never failed to smile (a smile that would just light up his whole face) or share a word of gratitude for the people in his life or for the experiences he got to do in his lifetime. Toward the end of his life, he found comfort in faith - that his faith would take him home to see his family again. His friends and loved ones find some peace in the sorrow of his passing because he is again with his family that he held so dear to his heart.
