Portage - William J. Labbe Sr., 78, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at his residence. He was born November 29, 1945, in Portage, the son of Emile and Claudia (Belanger) Labbe Sr..
Bill grew up in Portage and graduated from Ashland District School. After graduation he served in the Army national Guard from 1964 – 1966 and in the United States Army from 1966 - 1968. Bill worked driving a pulp truck for many years and then worked for the Maine D.O.T. until his retirement.
He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his workshop. In earlier years, Bill also liked to go camping, and later on, he and his wife Janice, also worked the gate at St. Pamphile. located on the Maine and Quebec border.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann Belanger and her life partner Michael Rafford, special son-in-law, Marc of Hartford, a son William J. Labbe Jr. and his wife Rhonda, of Ashland, nine grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind seven siblings, Emile Labbe Jr., Phillip Labbe both of Connecticut, Adrian Labbe of North Carolina, Mary Levesque of Connecticut, Marilyn McGrath of Connecticut, Betty Theriault of Florida, Diane Marquis of Maine, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife, Janice (Moro) Labbe, and two brothers, Norman Labbe and Bert Labbe.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 10:00 AM Tuesday November 12, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Portage, where a Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Anthony Korir, SMA, celebrant. The family invites relatives and friends to a time of reception and remembrance at the church fellowship, immediately following the service. Interment will take place at St. Marks Catholic Cemetery, at a later date. Arrangements in care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, ME 04769.
