William A. Loewer

William "Bill" Loewer, a long-time resident of Elmhurst, died peacefully Tuesday, February 17, 2026 after a short illness.

Bill was born February 4, 1927, in Chicago to William and Susana (Adler) Loewer. His family later moved to Aurora, where he attended Marmion Military Academy. Bill attended the University of Michigan for one year before being called into the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Sendai, Japan, where he spent a year teaching mathematics to U.S. troops. After his service, he returned to the University of Michigan and completed his degree in civil engineering.

Bill launched his career at the Portland Cement Association before holding positions at Talman Home and Stone & Webster. Later, as a commercial real estate appraiser at Arthur Andersen, he completed projects that included sites for NASA.

On a skiing trip, he met his future wife, Mary Ann Gwizdalski. They married on Oct. 6, 1965 and settled in Elmhurst, where they raised a son, Paul, and daughter, Louise.

Bill and Mary Ann were active parishioners at Visitation Catholic Church in Elmhurst. They delivered meals for PADS and were members of Elmhurst Courts Plus until Mary Ann's passing in 2021.

Bill will be remembered as a good man who loved his family and his Catholic faith. Bill is survived by his children, daughter-in-law Lori, grandchildren Emily and Nicholas, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.

The family would like to thank all who cared for Bill following Mary Ann's passing and during his final illness.

Visitation will be held from 3:00–8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York St., Elmhurst. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
