William Henry McCarty, Jr. passed away peacefully after a 9 year long and courageous fight against cancer. He died on November 19, 2024 in his home with his wife, Helen, at his side and surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.
Bill was born on May 9, 1939 in Lakewood, OH to parents, Virginia Marie (McGuire) McCarty and William Henry McCarty, Sr. He graduated from St. Edward's High School in Lakewood, Ohio and continued his education at the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.
Following school, Bill proudly served in the United States Navy based in Southern California. After serving in the Navy and traveling the seas, Bill planted roots in San Francisco, California, where he met and married Helen Elizabeth Roche. They were married at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, and cherished their young life and all of the fun filled memories they created together in San Francisco.
He loved his little hunter green BMW that he enjoyed driving along the Bay. Bill and Helen had two children in San Francisco, Gavin and Karen, before relocating to Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where they had two more children, Michael and Kaylin.
Bill and Helen moved to Michigan in 1980 and built their lives here. Bill was happy to retire from the financial services world and move to a golf course in northern Michigan where he could spend
his time nurturing his passions of golfing and fly-fishing and enjoying his peaceful life with Helen.
Bill took great pride in his Irish heritage and his strong Catholic Faith. He cherished all his siblings, Mary Bloom (Phil), Joan O'Brien (Thomas), Virginia Foley (Timothy), Mark McCarty (Sherri), and
Anne Gilbert (Ken) and their many children and grandchildren. Like his mother, Virginia, his large and loving family was the center of his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife Helen, their four children and beloved sons and daughter-in-laws: Gavin (Nancy), Karen (Tom), Michael (Stephanie), and Kaylin (Jeff), and their twelve grandchildren: Gavin, Brenna, Chloe, Emily, Nicholas, Evelyn, Ryan, Aiden, William, Gigi, Grayden, Andrew, and Meghan.
Bill's profound faith has undoubtedly led him home to God, where he is reunited with his loving mother,
Virginia and father William Sr. May William Henry McCarty rest in eternal peace.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church, 630 Harmon, Birmingham, Saturday, November 23, 2024, 12 Noon. Friends may visit beginning at 11:15am.
Memorials appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
