William W. McGreevy, a cherished family patriarch, veteran, and esteemed community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on August 6, 2025, in
Carmel, NY. Born on May 22, 1934, in the Bronx, NY, William was a man of integrity, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his loved ones.
William's early years in the Bronx set a strong foundation for a life characterized by hard work and service. William embarked on a successful career with Verizon Corporation in White Plains, NY, where he served in management until his retirement.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, William served honorably during the Korean conflict. His military service was a testament to his dedication to his country, and he carried the discipline and camaraderie of his Army days throughout his life.
He married the love of his life, Ellen Flynn, on February 27, 1960, and together they shared a bond built on love, respect, and shared values. He was predeceased by his loving son, William McGreevy Jr. (Sharon). He is survived by his beloved wife Ellen and his children, Maryanne Eveland (Mark) and John McGreevy.
William's pride and joy were his grandchildren, Michael (Cait), Christina (Kyle), Alec (Katherine), Elizabeth (Jim), and Katherine, who lit up his life with their achievements. His great-grandsons, Cole and Shane Dakin, added an extra sparkle to his later years.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Loretta McGreevy and siblings Christine Speckenbach, Jack McGreevy, and Mary McGreevy.
Family was paramount to William, the core of his existence and his role as a husband, father and grandfather was where he found his greatest joy and fulfillment.
William loved the game of golf and sailing with his brother-law Frank on the Long Island sound. He loved dancing at parties and the NY Giants.
In each smile, story shared, and moment of togetherness, the essence of William W. McGreevy's spirit will be felt and celebrated by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His was a life well lived, full of purpose, care, and deep love for his family.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Cargain Funeral Homes, Inc., 10 Fowler Avenue,
Carmel, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate William's life will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at St. James the Apostle Church, 14 Gleneida Avenue,
Carmel, NY.
Following the Mass, William will be escorted to his final resting place in Raymond Hill Cemetery in
Carmel, NY. U.S.A. Army Military Honor Guard Ceremony will take place graveside.
