Preceded in death by his father William R. Metzger, mother Barbara Metzger and brother David Ellithorpe. Survived by son Joey Metzger (Kathryn), daughter Jen Garloff, son James King, granddaughter Aila Jane, brothers Paul (Peter) & Danny (Tina) Ellithorpe, nephew Daniel Ellithorpe (Hollie), niece Elizabeth Esterley (Joe), ex-spouse Carol Metzger, best friend Perry Lopardo, sponsor/friend Brian Rognholt, significant other Jessica Stelter and his furbaby Stella.
Bill was raised in Oak Park, IL where he found his best friend and his love for having a good time. Bill was a genuinely nice guy - he could get along with anyone and was always there to crack a joke or say something off the wall to get a smile out of anyone. He was always smiling and happy once he found his peace. Bill battled several demons and had a long history of addiction, that he proudly overcame. Sobriety was so important to Bill and he was dedicated to his sober lifestyle. In the last year, Bill learned to love himself and did things that made him happy. He specially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Aila Jane. He loved being Pops. Family was everything to Bill - he always made sure that they knew he loved them. Bill was passionate about football and spent 31 years coaching youth teams. He loved making connections with his players and helping them chase their dreams. He will be missed.
Visitation on Thursday January 25 starting at 10:00 AM with a service at 11:00 AM. This will be held at O'Halloran & Murphy, 8700 Valley Creek Rd. Woodbury, MN 55125.
