William "Bill" Joseph Moder, age 77, went with the angels on Saturday, December 28, 2024. He was born on March 17, 1947, to Leander and Marie (nee Schmitt) Moder, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Beverly Moder (nee Schroyer); his loving children, Tom (Tara) Moder and Wes (Sarah) Moder; his cherished grandchildren, Austin, Julia, and Dexter; and his sisters, Mary (Alan) Snipes and Barbara (Willie) Brison. Bill was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Bill worked for the Chrysler Corporation for forty years, but his true passion was farming. Bill enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his happiest moments were spent at the farm, especially at his picnic table where he loved hosting friends, sharing a few cold beers, and creating memories with his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Bill also delighted in taking rides around the farm on his Gator with his wife and dog. There was never a stranger that Bill didn't befriend.
A proud veteran, Bill served overseas in the Vietnam War, earning several combat decorations for his meritorious service to include three Purple Hearts, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star with "V" device, and the Silver Star with "V" device. He was a dedicated member of the VFW, the Purple Heart Association, the American Legion, and the DAV.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy 30, Cedar Hill, MO. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, January 9, 2024, at 10:00 am at Chapel Hill Mortuary, with interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post #5331 of Cedar Hill, MO, or to a charity of your choice.

I was 6 years old when cousin Bill was born. My mother fixed a wicker basket full of freshly baked bread, rolls, coffee cakes, butter and jelly and set off across the field with her cargo to see the new baby. Disappointed, I was left under the watchful care of my sister.
Considered large for it's day, the Moder Farm (actually, The VanDer Crussen Farm) supported four families, Grand Parents Kate and Joe Moder, Pearl and Livinus Moder, Marie and Leander Moder and Delores and George Frank with their families.
"The Farm" could be a paradise for kids. A river, springs, woods and fields, a thousand places to play. And as many places to work. The Farm belonged in a time and place that no longer exists. That too is sad.
We love you, Bill
