William T. Noonan, 79, of Stoneham, MA, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2025. He was born on August 31, 1945, at Chelsea Naval Hospital and was the son of the late David and Stella (Borkowski) Noonan.

William grew up in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Boston College High School, Class of 1963, and Boston College, Class of 1967. He served in the United States Army, completing a tour in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, William continued his service in the United States Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Colonel. Professionally, he worked at the Internal Revenue Service for 42 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Jean Noonan (Peterson); his three children, William Jr. (Laura), Devon (Michael), and Bethan (Patrick); and his six grandsons, Andrew, William III, Matthew, Joseph, Joshua, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his brothers, Henry (Carmen) and David (Jane) Noonan; his brother-in-law, Daryll Brose; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, cousins, and lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marianne Brose (Noonan).

An avid runner, William completed the Boston Marathon many times and traveled with friends and family to run the Berlin, Montreal, Dublin, and New York City Marathons. After retiring from running, he volunteered for the Boston Marathon and served as a track official for college-level track and field events. William remained active throughout his life and enjoyed golfing in multiple leagues and bowling.

While there was so much more to him than “Dad” and “Grandpa,” these were his greatest and most cherished roles. William’s priority was always his family, who will miss spending summers with him on Plum Island, where he loved sunny days on the deck.

A Funeral Mass Celebrating William's Eternal Life will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 10am in Saint Patrick Church, 71 Central Street STONEHAM.
