William "Bill" Nuber, a devoted family man, courageous veteran, and dedicated public servant, passed away on March 2, 2025, at the remarkable age of 100.
Bill was the beloved husband of the Nancy Varlesi and late Margaret. He was a loving father to Gordon (Janice), Bill (Marcie), and Theresa (James) Cassani, and a proud stepfather to Theresa (Donald) Fucinari and Jodi (Chris) Rochowiak. He was cherished as a grandfather to Julie, Erika, James, Jacquelyn, Melissa, Jessica and Meredith and as a step-grandfather to Sam, Max, and Helena and great-grandfather to David, Evelyn, Margaret, Landon, Carter, Abigail, Edward, Eliza, Margot and August.
A true patriot, Bill honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, where his bravery earned him both a Purple Heart and a Silver Star. His dedication to service continued long after his military years, as he spent 25 years protecting and serving his community as a Detroit Police Officer. Even in retirement, he remained committed to the safety of others as a guard at the Detroit Medical Center.
Bill's life was defined by duty, courage, and love for his family. His legacy of selflessness and strength will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor. He will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, a fitting tribute to a man who gave so much for his country.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Malachy Catholic Church at 14115 Fourteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Guests may begin visiting at 10:30am.
