William H. "Bill" Oliver, 96, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was raised in the Quinsigamond Village section of Worcester where he spent a happy childhood.
At the age of 21, he served in the US. Army during the Korean conflict. He spent two years in Germany as a member of the 28th Division, 109th Infantry, Service Company Tank Maintenance. He was discharged in 1953.
He was an alumnus of Becker College where he spent 2 years majoring in Accounting and Business Law and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Fraternity.
He spent most of his career as a computer programmer for Raytheon Company, and for New England Electric System headquarters in Westborough, MA. He retired at age 62.
After retirement, Bill and his wife, Bette, toured Europe and went on a six-week auto trip around the United States. They traveled to Marco Island, Florida for 25 winters that were spent at their condo at The Village of Smokehouse Bay.
Bill's hobbies included duplicate contract Bridge. He was the Director of the Bridge Club at the Shrewsbury Senior Center for 14 years before leaving in 2018. He played bridge for over 30 years, both in Florida and Shrewsbury. His passion was gardening, and he spent much of his life growing flowers and tomatoes.
He was predeceased by his son, William Jr., and a brother, Richard E. Oliver. Bill leaves his beloved wife Bette (Uppstrom) Oliver of Shrewsbury; a daughter, Sharon Tonelli of Oxford, and two sons, Michael Bisceglia of Worcester, and Robert Bisceglia and his wife Shayne of Millbury; three grandsons, Jason Tonelli and his wife, Francesca of Worcester; Anthony Bisceglia and his companion, Olivia Burnes; and Nicholas Bisceglia of Millbury; as well as one great granddaughter Andreana Cappos and her husband, Drew of Putnam, CT; two great great grandchildren, Luke and Lielle Cappos of Putnam, CT; as well as two step daughters, Donna Evans and her husband, David of Northport, Florida; and Deborah Barton and her husband, James, of Northport, Florida, along with their children and grandchildren; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org)
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Oliver family from 9 - 11 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with a prayer service beginning at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury, where military honors will be rendered.
