FOREST CITY: William Abraham “Dub” Peeler, age 94, of Shelby went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 18, 2025, at Carolinas Foothills Hospice in Forest City. He was born March 6, 1931 in Lawndale, NC to the late William Max Peeler and Louise Pritchard Peeler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy Revels Peeler, a brother Edward “Bud” Peeler, and special friend Jeanette Marlow. Left to cherish his memory are a brother, Tom Peeler (Jackie), and sisters Ann Peeler Sloan (Fred), and Jane Peeler Randall, and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by a son, Chester Peeler (Cheryl), a granddaughter Candice Peeler, a grandson Nathanael Peeler (Abilia), three great-grandsons; Atticus, Ezra and Finneas Peeler, and a friend, Teena Peeler. Each of whom cherish the years they shared with him.
Mr. Peeler was a proud patriot. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean war. He was engaged in combat against North Korean and Communist Chinese forces assigned to Company G, 1st Marines, I Corps from November 1952 until the armistice in July 1953. Following his active duty, he served in the 6th Marine Corps Reserve until his discharge in 1960. He also served as a member of the Civil Air Patrol after his return to the U.S.
Mr. Peeler was a former member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church. He was one of the founders of the Serenity Club of Shelby where he served as a volunteer drug and alcohol addiction counselor for many years. He also served on the board of directors at the Neal Senior Center in Shelby.
In the 1960s he enjoyed fishing with his wife and son, and building dirt track race cars with Wayne Allen and Preston Humphries. He was a huge fan of NASCAR, and particularly David Pearson and Dale Earnhart Sr. He retired from PPG Industries in 1993 as a quality control lab technician. After retiring he took multiple continuing education classes at Cleveland Community College. He enjoyed photography and dabbling in real estate. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the medical staff of Atrium Health Cleveland Emergency Department, the Progressive Care Unit, and the medical staff of Carolinas Foothills Hospice for the outstanding care provided to Mr. Peeler during his final days on earth.
